He was sitting in the conference room of my office where usually people
stay who come there for interviews. His
head was down when I opened the door of the room, he didn't even notice to the
sound of the door and he was keep reading something. I just thought that he
must have come for the interview of probably a software engineer or a network
engineer. I had to use the washroom there so I just ignored him, used the
washroom and went towards my room.
During the lunch break, when I went through the kitchen, I just saw him
sitting there inside the kitchen on a chair, with the same down head, not
reading anything this time. I got tensed and thought, his interview has still
not been conducted... Poor he!
Around 4 to 5 o' clock, I again passed by the kitchen and watched him
still sitting in the same position. This time I really got tensed, why is he
still sitting here in the office from almost 11:00 AM?
I went to my room and asked one of my colleagues, who is the guy sitting
there in the kitchen? He is sitting from morning. What's the matter? And what
he told me was really astonishing for me. He said that the guy has been hired
as an Office Boy in this office. It was quite strange for me because he was not
looking at all like an office boy!
Anyways I just came back to my seat, having many thoughts in mind; I
just got shocking news when I checked my emails. I received an email from Human
Resource department that we've hired an office boy and he has done Bachelors
from a university.
I asked my colleague to go to that boy and ask him somehow that why he
is doing this job whereas he has a nice degree. My colleague asked him and he
told with a sad face, "I don't know how to use computer… That's why!"
All readers might be thinking that what's wrong with this writer, why is
she presenting an office boy's job as a bad job for a person who has completed
his Bachelors from a university. For that, let me tell you the job description
of that office boy:
- Standing/sitting all the time in kitchen, waiting for people to put their used plates, jars or any container and he washes all those at once
- Cleaning the kitchen all the time
- Going to everyone's seat to ask what he/she will have in lunch, go to purchase all lunch items for all office workers
- Going to everyone's seat in the evening to ask if anyone wants something to eat or anything from market
- If needed, cleaning the washrooms and floor of the office
- Dusting of the whole office
- Going to everyone's seat and ask, "Sir/Madam, would you like to have tea or coffee?"
After doing all these duties, if he gets some free time in the evening,
a computer system is given to him so that he can learn computer with his job (a
good step of the management). He learns the computer and when goes to home, no
one knows.
